The Smith Center Economic Development is an entity of the City of Smith Center, KS. It was put into effect in January 1, 2001. It is funded with a 1/2% sales tax. SCED has a 9 member Board of Directors as outlined in the Bylaws.
Mission of Smith Center Economic Development:
To promote, develop and perpetuate the city of Smith Center in order that its citizens, both young and old-both retired and working, thrive and have access to jobs, housing, education, health care, modern communications, transportation, recreation and the arts.
Memberships are maintained with a number of economic development and travel organizations to enable an opportunity to network and become educated on the ever changing role economic developemnt plays. This enables the promotion of Smith Center and the western Kansas region.
